Holiday vs. Vacation

Why is it someone can always get more done the day before they go on vacation?  Well, I experienced that last week – a craze filled week of pulling together loose ends before I got to jet off to the beach.  As I was doing the usual packing and cramming,  I was listening to SuperCoach Michael Neal.  He was talking about the mental mind shift of Vacations vs. Holidays.  I always heard the Canadians talk about going on Holiday; and never really got the nuance until yesterday – two days into my Holiday.

The difference is in the celebration of what the day brings, not the escape from life I live everyday.

It’s about honoring the presence of the moment and embracing what it offers, not running from anything.

It’s also about long walks on the beach AND finding the thrill of that in the walks around the neighborhood.

What do I notice?  I notice Holiday is a state of mind.  It can be triggered any moment.  I need to remind myself how easily it truly is to slip into this mode. While there is no ocean or salt water beaches – what is there?

That simple question “What is there?”  will get me to notice the Holiday in my everyday.  What will you notice?
